The Nordic Model for Competitive Economies: What’s in it for the U.S.?

As U.S. lawmakers and businesses work to rebuild the economy following the COVID-19 pandemic, the challenge is to strengthen the workforce, raise productivity, and build a more resilient system. In a time of disruptive change, with technological and social developments still lurking around the corner, investing in the human capital of American workers will be key.

The Nordic countries are known for their significant investments in human capital, including workforce development, paid family leave, and the social safety net. What do those countries tell us about how to foster a workforce that is able to skill up and adapt, and how to ensure that workplaces better benefit women, men, and families?
