Constitution Day annually celebrates America’s founding principles of liberty, equality, and self-governance.

Our democracy can only flourish when its citizens are informed and engaged, capable of thinking for themselves and participating in respectful debate.

But ideological intolerance has placed higher education squarely in the middle of the nation’s culture wars. Fear of the supercharged social media call-out culture chills student speech—even in the classroom, about half of students say they keep dissenting opinions to themselves. Some students are stepping up to create change by cultivating spaces for their student peers to express their views freely and engage in civil discourse.
